Girls Trip...San Antonio

It was my turn to plan girls trip and we made the getaway to San Antonio at the end of March. Such awesome company, great weather, and fun adventures together.

Grade State

Travel basketball season wrapped up with the Grade State tournaments. Each grade and level is split in to like talented levels. Gavin team played in the 4B1 bracket and Jacob's team in the 7C3 bracket. That seeding is based on a meeting that coaches go to and argue how good or bad their team is to get the most favorable seeding for their team. So Gavin's team was in the top bracket for 4B and they won their first game by 1 point, quite the thriller. Then they ended up loosing in overtime in their second game and loosing again in their 3rd game, so they were done.

Jacob's team started out slow in their first game against Woodbury and were down by about 8 at half. But they turned it around ended up winning by 1. They won their next one pretty easily. They played 2 games on Sunday, winning both and ended up as tournament Champs! Very fun way to end the season.

Red Dress

Since Daytons-Macy's quit doing the Glamorama cancer fundraiser, we've been looking for a new benefit party. Adrea got us tickets to check out Red Dress Minnesota, a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Alyssa wasn't interested in joining us so we drafted Kate as our honorary sister for the evening. We got all cleaned up and put on make-up, jewelry and dresses and off we went.

We had a dinner of small plates and a huge piece of chocolate cake at Ike's before heading to the event at the Lowe's Hotel. It was fun to see all the different looks of the attendees. There were some apps and some desserts available, but we were pretty full already. We took our seats for the runway show of local designers dressing local "celebrities" and a few heart survivor stories. We would have liked more information on the celebrities (as we didn't know who many of them were - Fox 9 news people, local doctors, Elizabeth Reis (channel 5), Laura Betker (channel 11), etc) and designers as they walked the runway, but otherwise it was fun to watch. We'd probably go again.

3rd Places at Lakeville South

Our last regular season tournament for the boys' travel basketball teams was in Lakeville on a snowy weekend. Gavin's team won 2 of their games to end up in 3rd.

Jacob's team played a terrible game on Saturday afternoon and then got stood up for their second game later on during the snow storm. We thought the team hadn't bothered to come or call, but after a few angry emails that evening we found out that the Orono team we were scheduled to play had pulled out of the tournament over a month earlier and Lakeville failed to update the brackets. So, with 1 loss and 1 forfeit on Saturday, we were playing for 3rd on Sunday. They played a tough game against Lakeville South and got the win.

Timberwolves

Adrea and Tim got Jacob Timberwolves tickets for Christmas and I got to tag along to the game. It was a close game and the Timberwolves got the win over the Kings. After the game we got to go down on the court (after waiting in a bit of a line) to shoot 1 free throw each. The adults were all respectable shots but none went in. Jacob swished his!
