Happy Birthday Grandpa Gene! We won't tell anyone how old you are:)

Gavin is growing so fast. He is zooming through clothes and fitting into some 6 month clothes. I know its great that he's growing so well, but its sad too. Plus, I think that it makes for the rough nights as the boy wants to eat all the time. We have had a couple nice nights of one feeding, but mostly he eats every 3-4 hours through the night. His next appointment is on the 10th of March and I am very curious to see how big he is.

I am so glad to see the sub-zero temps gone (temporarily at least). We get nowhere quickly as I drag Jacob and haul Gavin in and out of places. I think Gavin's skin is taking a beating from the cold weather. It is so dry, red and rough. I thought that it was just baby acne, but I think more so its the cold weather sucking all the moisture out of his tender skin.

We made our first trip back to Melrose this past weekend. It went very smoothly and we had a great time hanging out with family and friends. We celebrated Gene's birthday on Sunday with the Middendorfs and Jacob had a great time with all his cousins. So many boys!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

My mom was disappointed in my lack of posts since Gavin was born, so I thought I better get going. I guess she got spoiled with my daily posts when Jacob was born, but um, I had very highly trained professionals watching my baby for me which made it a bit easier to find the time. Now I seem to be strapped to a couch most of the day, since Gavin wants to eat seemingly constantly. He's not much for being awake without being fed. He gives a false impression when we go out as he sleeps so well in his carseat that people just think that's what he does at home all the time.

I do feel sorry for Jacob as I don't get to play very much with him, but he is being great about playing by himself (see car photo, I just picked one, but I have a whole bunch of different photos of him with his cars lined up in all different areas of the house and even in the sink). Jacob says thanks to the grandparents and great grandparents that sent him money for Valentine's day, he and Fred went to the store last night to get more cars. So, now he has 20 more cool cars to play with.

Gavin only got up once last night, between and 11 and 7. I hope it wasn't his Valentine's day present, as I hope he continues that. It felt great to get all that sleep.

Gavin was baptized this last Sunday. He filled out the outfit that Jacob has worn. He only fussed a little as he was waiting to get baptized and a pacifier helped keep him quiet. It certainly was a cold day, which made the letters on the banner my mom had made for him fall right off. We had a fun afternoon with family here to celebrate.

Jacob had a Valentine's day party this morning at a friend's house. A group of 2-3 year olds makes for an interesting party. One minute Jacob is underneath 2 other little boys in a monkey pile (as their moms just watch). The next minute he is whacking a little girl with a maraca, her mom says she was hitting him back, but I'm not so sure. He claims he had fun though and I enjoyed all the treats, so that's good. I did hear him telling his cars after we got home that we don't hit and we don't fight over toys.

I was pleasantly surprised with flowers this morning when I came down to the kitchen. I wasn't expecting any today, as Fred had told me I wouldn't be getting any until Friday since he's gone all day with class tonight.

A month tomorrow

Wow! I can't believe it'll be a month tomorrow since Gavin was born. It doesn't seem like its been that many nights with little sleep. I guess that is a good sign. He really is a good baby and only cries when he's hungry or when he gets his diaper changed - both of which happen often. He's growing so fast. He was 9 pounds already at his 2 week check-up. I can only imagine he's about 11 pounds by now. Luckily he still fits in the baptism outfit Jacob wore as he'll get baptised this Sunday.

Big brother Jacob loves to hug his brother, have Gavin grab his finger and sing to him. He is very gentle and sweet. Jacob entertains himself while I tend to Gavin during the day by playing with his hotwheel cars, lining them up and re-lining them. He also likes building towers with legos and reading books. His latest thing is to put his sunglasses on and pretend he's a doctor (I don't know why the sunglasses transform him). He asks "Does your head/tummy/leg hurt?". When you say no to all those, then he ask "Then what's the matter?" Its bedside manner taught to him by Daisy Duck, its pretty cute.

Fred had almost 2 weeks off after Gavin was born, so it was a great adjustment period for the family - especially Jacob. They did some fun stuff together, like sledding, playing outside, and going to the community center. Fred started class again last week for his masters. He goes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so those days can get long. Luckily my mom and dad like to come visit on Tuesdays and on Thursdays Auntie Drea takes Jacob to gymnastics.

Gavin is taking a bottle, so I have been able to get out kid free. I went out to eat with friends, did some shopping and attended a couple church council meetings.
